A shy cat hid behind cuddly toys in a closet until he met a kitten who needed a friend.

George, a 1 year old cat, came to Alley Cat Rescue in Los Angeles to make a better life for himself. At first he was very shy and spent the first few days hiding behind a few plush toys.

The orange and white cat was taken to a city animal shelter, battled an upper respiratory infection and had to be rescued. Alley Cat Rescue took him into their care so that the cute cat could begin its healing process in a loving care home.

"George used to hide in the closet with the cuddly toys because he wasn't sure what new place he was after the shelter," Alley Cat Rescue told Love Meow.

After receiving the right medication for days and eating well, the cute cat bounced back on his paws and began to come out of his shell. He was still a little shy, but had enough courage to venture out of hiding. George spent more time on the windowsill, watching the day go by.

Around this time a kitten named Sprout was brought to the rescue from another shelter. The kitten caught a terrible cold. While he was fighting the disease, he hid in his little "cave" (cat bed) and tried to be invisible.

The caretakers at the rescue worked tirelessly around the clock to nurse the kitten back to health. They syringe fed him every four hours, and gave him fluids and supplements whenever he needed them. His eyes began to clear and the kitten regained its appetite and strength.

As soon as Sprout was strong enough, he came out of his little den and immediately looked for someone to cuddle with. Rescue knew exactly the perfect friend to introduce him to.

They brought Sprout to George. The confident little kitten went straight to the cat, which was much bigger. After a few sniffs, the two just hit it off. Before they knew it, the kitten curled up next to George and George showered him with licks.

"Both have found each other and now cuddle all the time," said Alley Cat Rescue Love Meow.

George is more comfortable with the kitten and continues to rumble with his adorable purr. Sprout's confidence really rubs in on him. He's no longer afraid of being in a new place as long as his buddy is with him.

"George was cute and loved to cuddle, but just a little insecure in his new room. Now Sprout has made him more confident with us."

The kitten loves George anyway and is so happy to have a cuddly friend to keep him company.

"George and Sprout hung out together when they were both recovering from colds. George is better and has taken over the kittens.

"Sprout is doing so well. It's hard to believe we struggled to gain weight a week ago."
