CattyCorner: Pawliday items for cats who like to destroy them

Seasons greetings to my paw-like human minions.

Forrest here, ready to share some wise advice with you when it comes to your cat and Pawlidays.

With a time of joy and rejoicing, you buy people gifts to give to loved ones. For cats, this means a time to explore thanks to all of the boxes and bags that arrive around the house. Thanks to mom's love of online shopping, I have some new cardboard accommodations myself.

While we love the boxes and bags, this is where you hear cat parents, you better believe your kitten wants gifts!

I look forward to plucking bows and ribbons from the presents under the tree, but mom is always on my dick telling me these presents are not for me. Then I ask why are they lying on the ground under a big, twinkling tree? Sounds like a whole Forrest gift to me.

But she still doesn't give in. When I can finally tear myself into a gift that is for me, I'll be more than ready. I can almost guarantee that most of my cats will be fine with this, too. So spoil your kitten and give him a gift that he will love.

Since I'm a friendly cat, I've put together a list of suggestions to help you find the perfect gift for your puddy deed. You are welcome…

Gifts cats want

Cat trees

What cat doesn't like climbing from a height and surveying its territory? The gift of a scratching post would be very enjoyable, but when looking for a tower you should consider your cat's needs. Kittens enjoy a very different tree than an older cat.

Also, keep in mind what materials your cat prefers. Many cat condos are carpeted. Others have adopted a modern look with no carpet. It's about what your cat will prefer.

Water fountains

Give your cat the gift of water watching and drinking. We are drawn to running water and when it is available a cat chooses it for a refreshing drink rather than still water. With a water fountain, not only will we be tempted to drink more water, but the movement and sound will provide cats with a different form of entertainment.

Blankets and beds

Cats love to sleep, so beds are always a good talent. Choosing the right bed will depend on your cat's preferences. Some kittens feel like a silky feeling under their fur when they sleep, others dig the plushiness of memory foam. I enjoy a fluffy bed. The cracking and pulling of fuzzy material under my claws is so satisfying when I get into a good fit for kneading.

As for the blankets, I hope there will be a cozy blanket with my name embroidered under the tree. Mmm, Sherpa … I can also point out to my father that it is my blanket that has my name on it. He has the most annoying habit of thinking blankets are his.

Toys, wonderful toys

First, let me say, iHeartCats.com has a delightful selection of brightly colored toys that I would love to sink my teeth and claws into. In addition, every purchase feeds shelter cats or provides them with toys and blankets.

Check out these wobbly robot fish. Not only would the fish be fun to catch, but your cat would dip paws in the water for a super bubbly good time.

Tunnels are fun options too. We can hide, play and plan your destruction inside …

Flappy fish toys? Yes…

Catnip and all toys doused with this herb also make pleasant gifts.

Treats and Food, Cat Favorites Fur Sure

Bring your cat's favorite treats as part of their gift. No Pawliday celebration is complete without food, so make it with the Vittles as a gift. You make your cat the happiest cat in the world.

Remember, cats in animal shelters need love even during the holidays. Check out your local animal rescue wish list and give shelter cats a full belly!

For you and your cat family, your favorite wisdom whiskers wish you the happiest and safest vacation.

And as always, don't forget to feed the cat.
