Black Maidens, Ghana’s female U-17 team starts this year’s FIFA Under 17 World Cup qualifier on a high, with a 2-0 win advantage over Liberia.
The first leg of the first round of the qualifier came off at the Antoinette Tubman Sports Stadium on Sunday in Liberia. Goals from Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah and Salamatu Abdulai gives Coach Mallam Baba Nuhu’s side an easier task in the return encounter, which comes off in a fortnight in Ghana.
Head Coach , Mallam Baba Nuhu expressed his disappointment in his ladies for squandering the numberous chances that came their way but was of full praise of the team’s performance. In his post match remarks , he said,
” Even though we won , I told the girls that I was a bit disappointed in our inability to convert our chances. Because we created alot of chances and we are able to convert only two. That is a sign of positivity going forward, our team can be potent upfront. Playing and creating chances is one thing , and converting the chances are another thing. In a way, I’m happy because we played very well. “
Should Ghana qualify after the second leg , they come up against Nigeria / Guinea in the next round of the qualifier.
